Singing for joy, connection and wellbeing
Kindred Sound is an inclusive community singing initiative created by musicians Megan Butler and John Mullins.
Our Casual Choir Nights offer adults the opportunity to sing together in a relaxed, welcoming environment. There are no auditions, no pressure to perform and no previous singing experience is needed. The focus is on enjoying music, connecting with others and experiencing the many benefits that singing together can bring.
We believe that singing is for everyone, regardless of skill, ability or experience. If you use your voice to speak, you can sing—and you are welcome at Kindred Sound.
Our Casual Choir Nights
In summer 2026, we delivered our first series of five pilot Casual Choir Nights across the South East.
These small-scale sessions allowed us to develop and refine the Kindred Sound format while creating welcoming spaces where adults could sing, connect and enjoy music without the pressure of rehearsing for a performance.
We are very grateful to everyone who supported the pilot nights and helped us take the first steps in developing Kindred Sound.
Meet John and Megan
Megan Butler is a professional singer, primary school teacher and experienced vocal facilitator, who has worked with singers of different ages and levels of experience through community choirs, stage schools, workshops and live performance.
John Mullins is a professional musician, songwriter and sound engineer, who brings live musical accompaniment, harmony, technical knowledge and extensive performance experience to Kindred Sound.
Together, we want to make group singing feel accessible, enjoyable and welcoming—particularly for people who may not feel comfortable joining a traditional choir.
What happens at a Kindred Sound session?
Each session includes:
Gentle vocal warm-ups
Familiar and uplifting songs
Simple, accessible harmonies
Live musical accompaniment
Opportunities to relax, connect and enjoy singing with others
You do not need to read music or consider yourself a singer. You can simply come along and take part at your own pace.
What some people had to say after coming to a Casual Choir Night…
“I could have stayed singing all night'“
“I was still buzzin’ from it the next day”
“I really enjoyed that. I didn’t know what to expect, but I really really enjoyed it. I’m so glad I came”
